Utställning: De Oförtrutna

Meet some of the researchers who tirelessly work to understand, describe, and name the species around us.

Welcome to an exhibition that seeks to shed light on the dedicated and often painstaking work that scientific research entails.

In a series of portraits by photographer and SLU professor Christer Björkman, we meet 49 Swedish researchers who work in the spirit of Carl Linnaeus. The portraits tell the stories of people with a deep fascination for the diversity of nature – from fungi, plants and mosquitoes to tiny parasitic wasps and other species that most of us barely notice – and their tireless work to document and map them.

Each researcher is portrayed together with a book and an object that holds significance for their work. In this way, the photographs are both personal portraits and a glimpse into the sometimes invisible work that is the foundation of our understanding of biodiversity.

The exhibition attracted international attention when a selection of the portraits was published in The Guardian in spring 2026.

Welcome to discover the people behind our knowledge of species and the fascinating diversity that exists all around us!
