In October Ulrika Lagerlöf will visit the SLU University Library and talk about her book ”Hjortronmyren” (The cloudberry bog) and its central themes.

”Hjortronmyren” is the first part in ”Timmerfolk” (Timber people), a suite of novels about the magnificent Swedish forest and the conflicts surrounding it.

Ulrika Lagerlöf works with communications within the forestry industry. She lives in Uppsala and debuted in 2021 with the novel Stay with me. Hjortronmyren is inspired by Ulrika Lagerlöf's own family history. Her mother grew up in Bastuträsk in Västerbotten, and in the early 1940s her grandmother worked as a cook in a logger's cabin.

In the book Hjortronmyren we get to know Siv who, at the age of 17, is forced to work as a cook in a logger's cabin in Västerbotten in the 1930s. In parallel, a present-day story takes place where Eva, an employee of a forestry company, is sent to the fictional town of Djupsele in Västerbotten to resolve a conflict over the company's plans in the area.

You are very welcome to listen to Ulrika and to ask questions! Please note that the event will be in Swedish.
