Research and education in spectal analysis and remote sensing in South Africa and Sweden

As part of SASUF goes digital. With SLU researcher Erik Alexandersson.

Remote sensing and spectral imaging are revolutionizing many aspects of human socitiety, not least when applied to food stuff, agriculture and urban planning. They play a role in both plant breeding and precision agriculture, making farming more automated and efficient. Similarly, rapid advances are made monitoring food production to ensure food quality and safety. In the urban environment, remote sensing and spectral imaging could help to keep track on the state of highly valuable urban trees. To make full use of remote sensing and spectral imaging techniqies, there is a need to educate and equipe a new generation of students with analytic skills and technological knowledge.

In this workshop we will give short examples on how to apply remote sensing and spectral imaging in research. We will then have an open discussion on how to create new university courses and engage students in the subject area.
