Modelling biotic and abiotic forest disturbances under a changing climate

seminars, workshops |

Recently the work to develop and produce new national long-term scenario analysis for Swedish forests started. Within this context, there is a need for improvement of the potential to account for biotic and abiotic disturbances in forest modelling and simulations. Another important issue is to discuss how forest management could be adapted to decrease future risk for disturbances.

As a part of this endeavour, we are organising a digital seminar with the main aim to get an overview of models that can account for the main forest disturbances agents over the coming decades to century. This overview will be useful in the development of the scenarios and for putting the results from the national analysis in a broader context.

Four invited scientists with an expertise in forest modelling will present and discuss their model approaches during an open webinar. The session will be moderated by Professor Christer Björkman, Department of Ecology, SLU.

The main target group for the webinar are researchers and forest experts with an interest in technical aspects of forest modelling and scenario analysis.

The Swedish Forest Agency and SLU arrange this seminar jointly as part of the work to develop and produce new national long-term scenario analysis for Swedish forests (SKA22).
