How people make sense of nature and environmental change

How does people understand, think and talk about their natural environment and how it should be managed? Anke Fisher from the Department of Urban and Rural Development will talk about environmental communication.

Drawing on empirical examples from Scotland, she will examine how people construct their understandings of complex ecological concepts and issues such as ‘biodiversity’ and ‘biological invasions’, and discuss what we can learn from investigating the different, and possibly conflicting, ideas that different groups hold.
She will then look at how such understandings are used as discourses to (de)legitimise land use policy.

Hope to se you there! Everyone is welcome.
