Information regarding uploading and signing of files in eduSign

Information about the issue that occurs when you try to upload and sign files in eduSign and receive an error message stating "edusign.sunet.se cannot open this folder because it contains system files".

The cause of this error message is beyond our control and is due to a change in the browser and the API that controls which files can be opened and from where on your computer they can be accessed. This affects users who are trying to upload files from \\storage and their own home directory.

This problem currently occurs in the browsers Google Chrome and Edge.

To circumvent this problem, there are two options:

  1. Use the Drag and Drop feature: Instead of clicking to select files, try dragging and dropping the file directly into the upload box.
  2. Save the files locally first: Another solution is to first save the files in a local folder on your computer (for example, c:\temp) and then upload them from that folder.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we discuss how this issue may be addressed and resolved differently. If you need further assistance or have questions, please feel free to contact support.

Inviting to Sign with a Specific Assurance Level

Since version 1.4 of eduSign, it is possible to require a specific Assurance Level (AL) for the identities (people) who are invited to sign a document.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Upload the document to be signed
  2. Preview and approve the document for signing
  3. Invite others to sign
  4. Select the minimum Assurance Level required for the people who will sign (e.g., AL1, AL2, or AL3)
  5. Add the people and click on "Send invitation"

Limitation for SLU employees

Currently, SLU employees cannot sign documents where Assurance Level High (AL3) has been selected. Therefore, it is not possible to invite SLU staff to sign documents with AL3. However, it is possible to send documents with AL3 to people at other organizations that support this level. You can check which Assurance Level different organizations support in SWAMID's member list here:
