Curious to know how the new intranet is coming along?

Published: 10 June 2026

Work on building the new intranet is proceeding according to plan. Our goal is to create a secure and user-friendly intranet where you can easily find the right information and resources for what you do.

Development of the new intranet will continue throughout 2026. This work is based on a pilot study, in which the project team identified users' key needs and investigated how these can be met in an efficient and maintainable way.

'Right now, we are working on various features that users will need on the intranet. For those of us involved in the project, this is a major milestone: building what we have so far only worked on in theory. We are also meeting with representatives from all parts of the university. We have already met with the faculties and departments, and will now be meeting with the divisions of the university administration,’ says Charlotta Lantz, who is heading up the work on SLU’s new intranet.

When can we see more?

Parallel work is ongoing on structure, navigation and design. The aim is to create a user-friendly intranet with simple navigation and a start page where you can quickly find important links, tools and the information you need in your daily work.

Over the summer, an FAQ section will be launched on the current staff web, where you can follow progress on the project, view draft designs and find answers to frequently asked questions. Ahead of the launch next year, the aim is for as many people as possible to have tried out the intranet in a test version to ensure a smooth transition.

‘If you have any questions, you can also contact your web editor, who is kept up to date with information and news from the project. If they cannot answer your questions, they can always refer you to us,’ says Charlotta Lantz.

A customised intranet

A major difference between the current staff web and the new intranet is that it will be personalised. This means that content and features to a greater extent will be tailored to your role, which part of the organisation you work in, and where you work. This will make it easier for you to find relevant information, important links and tools. At the same time, all information will still be available to all employees, with the exception of certain information for managers.

One example is the start page. On today’s staff web, the links to various tools and systems are the same regardless of who visits the page. On the new intranet, these will be tailored to what is most relevant to your role. However, you can always choose to add or remove tool links yourself.

The start page will also be tailored to your place of work, meaning that you will primarily see the news and events that are relevant to your specific place of work. If you want to see news from other parts of SLU or other locations, you can always choose to view information from across the whole university.

‘The intranet project hinges on the introduction of Omada, which is set to replace Idis. We are working closely with the Division of IT on this, and we expect to launch the intranet in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for the first half of 2027,’ says Charlotta Lantz.

In other words, it is not yet time to actually change to a new intranet, but work is already well underway with a clear objective of creating a more user-friendly and secure website.

‘At the same time, we will be taking the opportunity to remove outdated pages and those that do not meet our quality standards. This will result in fewer pages, making it easier to find relevant content. At the same time, it gives the search engine better conditions, allowing it to deliver accurate results – something we know will be appreciated,' says Charlotta Lantz.

Facts:

Web project FALK

The reason SLU is building a new intranet is that the current web platform, Episerver, has reached the point where it needs to be replaced.

The intranet project is part of the larger FALK web project, which also covers slu.se and the sub-websites Artdatabanken, the library, the student web and the University Animal Hospital. The overall aim is to create a stable and future-proof web platform where users can easily find relevant and up-to-date information about SLU and our activities.

The project is headed by the Division of Communication in close collaboration with the Division of IT.

The FALK web project stands for:

  • Förvaltningsbart (maintainable)
  • Användaren i fokus (user-focused)
  • Lagligt (legally compliant)
  • Konsekvent och standardiserat (consistent and standardised)
