News in brief from the Faculty Board meeting on 18 september

Published: 18 September 2025

The first Faculty Board meeting of the autumn has taken place, and here is a summary of the main points

The Faculty Board has approved the advertisement for the recruitment of an associate senior lecturer in Terrestrial Microbial Ecology at the Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology. This is part of a strategic initiative decided in 2024 concerning staffing within certain subject areas of the faculty.

This year’s quality report from the Doctoral Education Committee was presented and will be forwarded to the Council for Doctoral Education. An intensive effort is currently underway to plan decisions regarding the future of the faculty’s graduate schools.

External experts were appointed to assess applicants for the position of Professor in Environmental Policy and Environmental Governance, currently being recruited for the Department of Urban and Rural Development. This professorship represents a slightly revised position replacing the previous Professor of Political Science recruited a few years ago, who chose to move on to a position at Örebro University.

Finally, a new member was appointed to the Program Board (PN-NJ)—Hanna Astner from the Department of Economics. Hanna replaces Karin Hakelius, who has become a new Program Director of Studies.

Facts:

  • Deciding on tasks and resource allocation to institutions and other units.
  • Deciding on the subject areas to be included within the faculty.
  • Ensuring that operations are tailored to maintain high-quality education, research, and environmental analysis and that resources are used efficiently.
  • Deciding on the organisation of the faculty, including the division into boards, committees, etc.
  • Deciding when the recruitment of a professor should take place and, in connection with that, establishing the employment profile.
