1 October marks the start of European Cybersecurity Month. Cybersecurity Month is an EU campaign to raise awareness of cybersecurity issues among both the public and organisations.
The Security Unit and the Division of IT would therefore like to remind you of some basic advice on how to stay safe online.
At SLU, we handle large amounts of sensitive information. This is why it is important that we think about and take into account security aspects in our daily work. Here are four practical tips on how to improve your cyber hygiene, both at work and in everyday life:
The more characters a password has, the stronger it is. Password managers are a great tool to help you create and manage strong passwords for all your accounts.
Pay particular attention to external emails requesting personal information, such as login details. Never share sensitive information with unknown recipients. Always report phishing attempts or similar to support@slu.se.
You often need more than one password to protect your most sensitive accounts. Using multi-factor authentication reduces the risk of being hacked. Enable multi-factor authentication for all sensitive accounts that offer it.
In 2026, SLU will introduce multi-factor authentication for all users. Do you want to start using multi-factor authentication now to increase the security of your account? Read our instructions on how to enable multi-factor authentication for your SLU account.
Check regularly that your software is up-to-date. The best way to ensure you have the latest updates is to let the software update automatically.
