After almost a year and a half of hard work, the new slu.se is now being launched, including the Swedish Species Information Centre and the University Library. It’s been a thorough effort, with the entire website rebuilt from the ground up. The code has been rewritten, and the content recreated on the new platform, all to achieve the highest possible quality.
It all with a technical need to update the platform. But the project has been more ambitious than that — aiming to improve not only content quality, but also compliance, management and maintenance, performance and design.
And now, part one is complete. Part two, which covers the University Animal Hospital and the student web, will begin this autumn, followed by the start of work on the upcoming intranet in 2026.
The first thing we hope will strike users is the significant upgrade to the design. There is now more order and structure, with a design system at its core that ensures the design is thoughtful and consistent throughout the entire website.
The new slu.se presents research more clearly and accessibly through a new research catalogue. Users can easily find both research projects and research groups by subject.
More content is searchable and filterable on the new website. Examples include the research catalogue, job listings, and programme pages.
The search page itself has also been improved with a new filtering option for specific content types.
With the new site, even those who aren’t trained as web editors can contribute content via a form-based solution. This applies to profile pages (which replace the old CV pages), research catalogue entries, and certain types of events.
While not everything is 100% fully developed yet, we’re more than satisfied with the progress we've made over the past year. We’re confident that the new site will be a significant improvement from the very start. Our approach has been flexible, ensuring that key functions are available from launch, with additional refinements coming over time as a bonus.
All the web editors have done a fantastic job creating content as new page types and functions have become available. We’re especially pleased that so many research projects are already in place—even though it was one of the last features to be developed.
We’re incredibly excited to hear your thoughts, receive feedback, and answer any questions! Get in touch at webbredaktionen@slu.se—we welcome both praise and constructive criticism.
