Många vinster med att skriva populärvetenskapligt om skog

There is a lot to be gained from writing popular science articles for Fakta Skog, the factsheet series at the Faculty of Forest Sciences. Christer Björkman, professor of entomology, wrote his first Fakta Skog article on his PhD Thesis in 1991. He recommends all researchers to write popular science articles for Fakta Skog
Most researchers at SLU agree that it is important to disseminate their research outside the university walls. Why should researchers choose to produce a fact sheet?
“I am often contacted by journalists and others who have read my texts in Fakta Skog,” says Christer Björkman. “But for me, there are more benefits than just reaching a wider audience. I think it sharpens your thinking to try to formulate the very essence of what you know about a subject in such a concentrated format.”
More advantages of publishing Fakta Skog:
- It is a well-proven concept and appreciated by the authors as it is widely distributed.
- It is clear which authors are behind the text. This makes it easy to cite and include in the publication list in your CV.
- The fact sheets are saved over time. Nowadays, all Fakta Skog publications are registered in SLUpub, which means that they remain available and searchable, unlike publications on slu.se, which disappear forever when the website changes form.
- All researchers at the Faculty of Forest Sciences have the opportunity to promise a financier in a research application that the results will be published in a popular science format in Fakta Skog.
