Call for internationalisation

The SLU Breeding Network is launching a call for internationalisation for researchers, postdocs and PhD students at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) in animal or plant breeding. The call aims to provide support to enhance international contacts and collaboration with diverse institutions in relation to animal and plant breeding. Applicants can seek support mainly by inviting researchers from abroad or going abroad themselves.

General information

The SLU Breeding Network will award eligible applications that will be selected according to the priority list below and that do not exceed the SLU Breeding Network budget limit for this call. Applying for the call does not ensure acceptance.

Who can apply?

Researchers, PhD students and postdocs working within plant or animal breeding at SLU who are employed, on a scholarship or admitted at SLU during the time of the event, applied for in the call. The supervisor or work leader must be informed and approve the activity.

What can be applied for?

The SLU Breeding Network has a total amount of 300,000 SEK allocated to this call. Each successful applicant may get between 10,000 and 75,000 SEK to cover travel, accommodation, and fees (if applicable). Costs for subsistence (“traktamente”) are not included in this call. Each candidate can submit only one application for this call!

The applications will be prioritised according to the following list:

  1. Invitation of international incoming researchers/teachers in the field of animal or plant breeding (a letter of invitation by an SLU researcher should be included).
  2. Attendance at international events (congress, conference, symposium…) in the field of animal or plant breeding. Those with oral presentations are given priority, followed by those presenting a poster.
  3. Attendance at an international course/workshop/lab outside Sweden in the field of animal or plant breeding.

Application procedure

The application should not exceed one A4 page and should be submitted with a CV of at most two pages. Please sign the application form using EduSign and send it as a PDF file to Anna Maňourová (anna.manourova@slu.se).

The application must contain:

  • The applicants' name and affiliation (department and faculty at SLU), the name and affiliation of the supervisor/work leader (if applicable)
  • Short description of the applicant’s research and expertise
  • Short description of why the guest researcher should be invited to SLU or why the course/event is relevant to the professional development of the applicant
  • Information on the guest researcher (length and approximate time of stay, approximated costs for travelling and accommodation, additional fees) or the course (name, date, fee, form of presentation)

Additionally: A letter of approval from the supervisor (PhD students) or work leader (postdocs and technicians) is required.

The applications will be approved by the committee of the SLU Breeding Network at the beginning of November 2024, following the recommendations from a scientific evaluation committee of professors at the four faculties at SLU. The last day to apply is September 30, 2024. If the application is approved, the applicant will get written approval stating that the SLU Breeding Network guarantees a grant up to a certain amount. Allocated funds must be used before December 31, 2025. Only actual costs up to the approved sum are reimbursed.

A travel report should be sent to the coordinator of the SLU Breeding Network no later than two months after travel completion to receive the funds. The travel report should include a description of the most important parts of the trip, their costs and how well the purpose of the grant has been achieved. All costs, including deviations from the original proposal, should be reported together with a signature from the department accountant.
