Continued considerable interest in our programmes

The autumn semester application figures are in, and they show a continued high number of applicants per place for SLU programmes, albeit with a slight reduction from last year’s high.

A total of 8,101 applications means a 15 per cent reduction from last year’s 9,482. The number of first-choice applicants is 2,949, a slight drop from last year’s 3,493. Nationally, there was a 10 per cent reduction in applications.

This reduction was expected, as the very high figures of the last couple of years were partly a result of the pandemic. With restrictions gone and low unemployment figures, fewer people choose to study.

Deputy vice-chancellor Pär Forslund welcomes the result.

“It’s great to see that so many prospective students want to study at SLU. This means that there is competition for places on most of our programmes, and that is one of our objectives. Some programmes are still struggling with low numbers of applicants, but we continually strive to improve quality; this year, we’re focusing on the Food Science (BSc) programme, analysing it with the aim of making it more attractive to prospective students.”
