Swedish Biodiversity Centre is made permanent at SLU

This means that the CBM will be part of the academic organisation at the university, and for the first time since 1994, will have access to all the academic facilities, such as career-development positions, doctoral students and educational courses. Furthermore, the Faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences (NJ-Faculty) that the department of which Urban and Rural Development is a part, is aiming to establish a professorship at CBM.

These changes will make CBM a permanent organisation within the SLU research and teaching structure. CBM will continue to be a centre for production and distribution of research findings and practical knowledge about the complex interaction between biodiversity and society. Research will focus on and highlight the importance of biodiversity to society and societal development challenges. CBM's work will consists of initiating, conducting and coordinating research, and information dissemination aimed at conserving, restoring and sustainably using biodiversity. This means that CBM will work with transdisciplinary methods that embrace natural science, humanities, social sciences, and close cooperation with organisations outside of academia.
