Vice-chancellor decides to establishes faculty-wide platform for aquaculture

Published: 21 March 2017

In February, the vice-chancellor decided to establish a platform for aquaculture, run by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science.

Since 2015, the VH Faculty has been mandated by the SLU Board to be responsible for the field of aquaculture at SLU. This responsibility includes coordinating SLU's part of the National Competence Centre for Aquaculture (NKfV) and conducting an investigation of this specific field for SLU.

The investigation resulted in a report with three proposals: 1) to change the Swedish name from 'vattenbruk' to 'akvakultur',  2) to establish a faculty-wide platform and 3) to reinforce aquaculture with two lecturers working in the field.

In light of this inquiry, the new platform is established in order to strengthen cooperation across faculties and to coordinate research, education and environmental monitoring and assessment within the field of aquaculture. The new platform is led by a steering group with representatives from all faculties, and it is also connected to the internal part of the existing NKfV.
