SLU – New in a Leadership Role
This course is designed for those who have recently taken on their first managerial or leadership role at a level below that of Head of Department or Division Manager. It is a shorter version of SLU Leadership (SLU-L) and is intended to complement the introduction and guidance provided by your immediate supervisor, helping you prepare for the responsibility of leading operations at SLU—whether in academia or administrative support. If you have a clear managerial role with operational and personnel responsibilities, you are also expected to take the SLU Management (SLU-C) course.
SLU – New in a Leadership Role focuses on the interpersonal aspects of leadership. The course is grounded in leadership research and psychology.
Target Group
The course is intended for individuals who are new to leadership roles. This may include leading a research group for the first time, supervising administrative/technical staff, managing projects, heading small units, acting as a course coordinator, etc. The common denominator is that you hold a defined leadership role involving the leadership of colleagues.
We aim for a course group of 12–20 participants. If we receive fewer than 12 registrations, we may need to postpone the course start. If we receive more than 20, we will make a selection based on the following priorities:
- Leadership roles in research, education, and environmental monitoring & assessment
- Administrative/technical staff closest to research, education, and environmental monitoring
- Other administrative support roles
If you’re unsure whether this course is right for you, please contact us for a discussion.
