Derek Garfield: I didn’t think I would pursue a doctorate, let alone in forestry! But how could I pass up the chance to research and gain expertise at one of the world's leading research and education institutions for my subject? I had to say, “YES!” Pursuing a doctorate at SLU has allowed me to contribute to creating necessary knowledge for achieving a more sustainable forestry sector and develop skills that will be valued both in and outside of an academic career
