Development in the age of global value chains

A Nordic Launch of the World Development Report 2020 with the World Bank Group’s Chief Economist.

The world has always been interconnected. But the degree to which countries economically depend on each other now is unprecedented, as production is fragmented across many places. The parts produced in each country are shipped across the globe often crossing borders multiple times, a pattern which has been called Global Value Chains (GVCs). What do GVCs mean for development cooperation?

The World Bank Group's 2020 World Development Report analyzes how the changing face of globalization, not least due to automation and new technologies, can impact development. Join us for this event illustrating how GVCs affect economic growth, inequality, poverty, gender equality and environmental issues, and how policies can promote sustainable development in a GVC world.
