A New Deal for the Eastern Partnership – Putting People First

In 2009, the Eastern Partnership saw the light of the day, out of aspirations of a new Europe. The partnership was launched on the initiative of Sweden and Poland to strengthen relations between the EU and its six Eastern neighbours: the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

A few places left, please register by Friday 1 November.

The purpose was and is to build a common platform to share democracy, prosperity and stability. The partnership should also make the EU and the partners better equipped to deal with internal and external challenges. Sweden and other EU Member States have contributed to this work which includes building democracy, strengthening institutions, improving the business climate and protecting the environment.

Today the region is in transformation. Still, more needs to be done and common efforts might not be reaching everyone in the society. Is inequality and polarization a threat to reforms, economic development and social stability? And what is the new deal for the Eastern Partnership?

This year the Eastern Partnership celebrates its 10th anniversary, and we will look closer at what has been achieved and how the Eastern Partnership is adapting to new challenges. We will also reflect upon the Eastern Partnership beyond 2020, and how this unique European foreign policy can contribute to building a more resilient and prosperous Europe.

Panellists in this Development Talks are prominent decision-makers, scholars and civil society representatives from partner countries, the European Union, Poland and Sweden.

The event is hosted by H.E. Peter Eriksson, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation, and Ms. Carin Jämtin, Director General of Sida.

Welcome!

The event is free of charge. Register here by Friday 1 November 2019.
