About the project

What is the Microsoft 365 migration?

It is the work of moving SLU’s email, documents and collaboration platforms to Microsoft 365 to create a modern and secure environment for communication, collaboration and information management.

Why is SLU doing this?

To strengthen our digital work environment and make collaboration easier and more secure through a unified platform that works anywhere and offers better protection for university information.

Who is affected by the migration?

All employees and students at SLU will be affected over time. You will receive information well in advance before it is time for your part of the organisation.

What does the change mean to me?

Will my daily work be affected?

For most users, the change will be smooth. You will continue using familiar tools such as Outlook, SharePoint and Teams, but in a more modern and integrated environment.

What happens to my email?

Your email will be moved to Exchange Online. You will keep your address and folders and can access your email via the web wherever you are.

What happens to my files and documents?

Files and documents will be moved to SharePoint Online, providing improved availability, searchability and security.

Security and availability

Is it safe to move to the cloud?

Yes. Microsoft 365 provides stronger protection against data loss, service disruptions and security incidents in accordance with current legislation and SLU’s security requirements.

Will I still be able to work during the migration?

Yes. The migration is planned so that you can work as usual. Any disruptions will be communicated in advance and kept as short as possible.

What happens if something goes wrong?

The project works closely with IT security, legal and information security. Backups and support are available if anything needs to be restored.

Benefits and opportunities

What will improve with Microsoft 365?

Easier collaboration, better access to information and improved security, as well as access to new digital tools that can simplify everyday work.

What new features will I get?

You will gain access to Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint Online. Additional services will be evaluated over time.

Why is this beneficial for me as an employee or student?

It makes everyday work easier by enabling secure collaboration, easy information sharing and flexible work regardless of location.

Practical information before the migration

How will I know when it is my turn?

You will receive an email and information well in advance before your part of the organisation is migrated, with clear instructions on what to do.

Will there be support and help available?

Yes. You will receive guidance, instructions and access to Service Desk support. There will also be information on the staff web.

What should I do if I have more questions?

Visit the staff web for more information or contact Service Desk via the Self Service portal or support@slu.se.

Teams

What does it mean that guests can no longer invite other guests?

This ensures that access to SLU’s Teams environments is not shared further without control.

Why must dial-in participants be admitted to meetings?

Dial-in participants cannot be automatically identified and therefore must be admitted by an SLU user.

Why must external participants be admitted from the lobby?

External participants cannot be automatically identified and therefore must be admitted manually.

Microsoft 365

Why do administrator accounts have stricter security requirements?

Administrator accounts can make system changes and therefore require additional security measures.

Why are these security-enhancing measures being implemented?

They reduce risk, improve information protection and create a stable foundation for the migration.

Why is the 'Keep me signed in' option no longer available?

The option has been removed to reduce the risk of unauthorised access if a device is left unattended.

Why do I need to sign in more often?

To ensure that the correct person is using the service, which means you may be asked to sign in more frequently.
