You're invited to a fantastic science festival

Published: 25 September 2025

Bring your family and friends to SciFest on 11 October! SLU is proud to contribute to this vibrant science festival, which attracts thousands of curious visitors to Fyrishov in Uppsala every year.

SciFest is organised by SLU and Uppsala University and runs from 9 to 11 October. The first two days are dedicated to school classes, while Saturday is open to everyone.

The festival is built around interactive activities where visitors can experiment, test research methods, play games, take part in competitions and challenges… Science comes alive through all the senses! But most importantly, visitors get to meet real researchers, ask questions and explore exciting topics together.

“I’m thrilled that so many want to contribute to SciFest. It’s a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge with the wider community,” says Anna Lundmark, SLU’s representative in the project team.

SLU makes a big contribution

SLU is offering about 20 workshops and drop-in activities. On stage, pupils will meet researcher Judith Lundberg-Felten and environmental assessment analyst  Moa Pettersson.

For the first time, the national semi-final of the Researchers’ Grand Prix will be held at SciFest. Five researchers from across Sweden will compete with short, engaging presentations. Representing SLU is PhD student Laura García Romañach, while Mariana Pires Braga will be part of the jury.

The programme also includes an evening for teachers, where Christina Lundström will present how the Climate-Food Game (KliMatspelet) can be used in the classroom.

“And of course, there’s lots of exciting content from Uppsala University too. Together we’ve created a programme with incredible range – from electricity to eels, runes to space, AI to insects. This year, we also have the sub-theme Earth beneath our feet, with topics such as earthworms and earthquakes,” says Anna Lundmark.

On Saturday, SciFest will also be joined by the Visualisation Centre in Norrköping. Take a journey beyond our galaxy, bring (digital) dinosaurs back to life and ask questions to the Earth itself – TellUs.

Inspiring curiosity

The aim of SciFest is to spark curiosity and interest in research among children and young people. And this year, even more pupils will get the chance to experience SciFest thanks to support from World Class Uppsala and local businesses. A total of 26 sponsored buses will bring 1001 pupils from Tierp, Östhammar, Älvkarleby, Heby, Norrtälje and several schools on the outskirts of Uppsala. For schools with longer journeys, it’s not always easy to get to Fyrishov.

“But right now, what matters most is that everyone – visitors, exhibitors and students – gets to enjoy three fantastic days at SciFest. See you there!” says Anna Lundmark.

SciFest usually welcomes around 7,000–8,000 visitors over the three days. If you’d like to visit SciFest on Thursday or Friday, please contact anna.lundmark@slu.se. Maybe you will participate next year!
