Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to be introduced in the IA System

Published: 03 October 2025

To increase security in the IA system, SLU will introduce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in October for users with a specific role in the system, such as managers, safety representatives, HR specialists, etc.

What is the IA system?

IA (Information System on Work Environment) is the system where employees can report incidents – that is, events that have led to, or could potentially lead to, harm to people, property, or the external environment.

You can also report events or behaviors that may harm SLU’s operations or that violate laws and regulations. In addition, you can submit improvement proposals directly in IA.

What is MFA?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an extra layer of security when you log in. In addition to your password, you need to confirm your login through an app on your phone. At SLU, we use Microsoft Authenticator, which you install on your mobile phone.

Why is MFA being introduced?

The IA system handles sensitive information related to the work environment and incident reporting. To protect this data from unauthorized access and strengthen security for both employees and the organization, we are now introducing MFA.

Who is affected?

The MFA requirement only applies to users who have a specific role in the IA system, such as managers, safety representatives, HR specialists, etc. Reporting incidents, environmental deviations, or medical deviations will not be affected by this change and does not require MFA.

Timeline

October 14: MFA will be activated for all users with a role in the IA system.

Possible exceptions

If there are user groups without access to a mobile phone, the need for an exception must be reported by a manager, head of department, or equivalent to: support@slu.se

Remember

MFA is an important part of SLU’s work with information security. By introducing this, we strengthen the protection of our systems and create a safer digital work environment for everyone.
