SLU has decided to ban the use of candles in all premises where the university conducts activities. The purpose of the decision is to prevent fire and reduce the risk of serious injury to people, activities and buildings. SLU's Head of Security took the decision.

All employees, students, and others working on SLU premises are responsible for complying with the decision. For those who still wish to create an atmosphere similar to that of candlelight, the use of flameless alternatives, such as battery-powered LED lights, is recommended.

The ban applies from 20 November 2024.
