Jens Rommel joins the Department of Economics

Published: 08 November 2017

Jens joined the department in October as a post doctor in the Decision-making and Managerial Behaviour research group.

-       How come you applied for a position at the department of economics?

I was looking for a new challenge. After being employed by a non-university research institute in Germany for several years, I started missing the more dynamic work environment of a university and the opportunity to teach. I have heard many good things about SLU and Sweden more generally. In addition, the “Decision-making and Managerial Behaviour” group has an exciting research agenda that perfectly matches my interests.

-       Who will you be working with and what projects will you be involved in?

I will mainly be working with the “Decision-making and Managerial Behaviour” group. I am interested in behavioural field experiments. But I will also start to get into the psychological literature in order to better understand farm level decision-making. As part of the H2020 SURE-Farm project, I will analyse farmers’ risk attitudes.

-       Quick questions:

  • City life or wildlife? I am very much used to a city lifestyle, but I am looking forward to experience Swedish wildlife.
  • Cats or dogs? I am not having a lot of experience with any of the two, but I would say dogs.
  • Tea or coffee? A lot of coffee and a black or green tea from time to time.
  • Name a place you would like to visit in the world and why. There is no place in particular. I like going back to places that I have previously visited to see how they changed. I very much enjoyed travelling in France, Israel, or India, not least because of their great food.
