About wellness benefits

Last changed: 18 June 2025

As an SLU employee, you are entitled to a wellness allowance of up to 2000 SEK per year for any activity that follows the Swedish Tax Agency's guidelines for tax-free wellness activities

Who is eligible for the wellness allowance?

  • Permanent employment
  • Fixed-term employment
  • Parental leave or sick leave
  • Hourly paid employees (not via Epassi, see under the heading "Hourly paid" further down)
  • Scholarship holders (have their own routine. See below)

How much is the wellness allowance at SLU?

The wellness allowance for the entire year is 2000 SEK, but the amount depends on the length of your employment. The allowance also applies if you are on parental leave or sick leave. The wellness allowance is not dependent on the extent of your position, only on the number of months you work during the year.

The allowance must be used during your ongoing employment.

You can receive a wellness allowance of up to 2000 SEK per calendar year. If you are employed for part of the year, you will receive 1/12 of the allowance for each month of employment.

Which wellness activities are approved?

Approved wellness activities include exercise activities, massage treatments, or gym memberships. For more information on which exercise and wellness benefits can be reimbursed, visit Epassi's website.

The wellness allowance cannot be used to purchase equipment or pay personal membership fees in associations or other groups.

Hourly paid employees

Hourly paid employees can receive 1/12 of the allowance for each month you have worked at least one shift. You can receive a wellness allowance of up to 2000 SEK per calendar year. Your worked hours must be registered in Primula and paid out.

We recommend applying as late as possible in the year while you have an active employment to get a larger balance. The balance for hourly paid employees will be given only after the work has been performed.

Hourly paid employees do not have access to Epassi. To take advantage of SLU's wellness benefits, you need to scan a receipt and send it to loner@slu.se.

Scholarship holders

Scholarship holders should receive employee benefits that are tax-free for employed staff. These include a wellness allowance of up to 2000 SEK per year (under the same conditions as other employees regarding the Swedish Tax Agency's approved activities, employment duration, and service level) as well as the right to a Christmas gift and computer glasses. These benefits are tax-free according to the Swedish Tax Agency's regulations. Reimbursement is paid out by submitting a receipt to the economist/personnel administrator at the department for direct payment through Proceedo. The cost is charged to the department. If the tax-free benefits are not to be reimbursed, this should be clarified in the common information/agreement as mentioned above.

Use your wellness allowance through Epassi.

Wellness portal Epassi is SLU’s  partner for wellness activities.

On the Epassi web, you will find information on where you can use your allowance. There are several options to choose from. Are you interested in yoga, a gym membership, or perhaps you want to give disc golf a try?

Your wellness allowance, up to SEK 2,000 for those working full-time, is automatically available in your Epassi account.
