The staff at the HUV laboratory lab recently took a course in liquid nitrogen management. Liquid nitrogen is classified as dangerous cargoes and special rules are applied for transportation.
What is new and most important is that in order to transport liquid nitrogen you need to have completed a course. This applies to transportations to both Lövsta and other facilities within and outside of Uppsala. After completed course following rules must be complied with upon transportation;
- Liquid nitrogen container must be transported completely separated from the driver and passengers, i.e. you are not allowed to transport the container in the back seat or in the luggage compartment of the car. Approved transportations are with a trailer or in a van.
- The trailer and van must be marked with warning signs for transportation of dangerous cargoes
- Powder fire extinguisher (ABC class1) must be provided upon transportation
