There are at SLU a number of different guidelines when it comes to applying for external funding and for co-funding external research projects. The purpose of these guidelines is to avoid financial and legal problems in externally funded projects.

Guidelines for external funding
The guidelines apply to proposals for grants and tenders as well as the contracts and agreements that proposals and tenders lead to. It is the head of department (or equivalent) who is responsible for creating and maintaining routines for applying the guidelines within his/her department/unit.

Co-funding; central and three-part
Many of SLU's grant contracts with external funders do not have full coverage for the costs. Normally, the responsibility for co-funding contracts lies with each department. If the need for co-funding is great, it may prevent a department from concluding the contract. In order to give SLU's departments a greater opportunity to participate in such contracts, there are SLU-common guidelines for co-funding.

The Swedish Research Council's (VR) national infrastructures
The Swedish Research Council's (VR) national infrastructures have their own SLU decisions on co-funding. What applies to VR infrastructure can be found in SLU's guidelines for managing research infrastructures. The guidelines are accessed via a link from the Staff web's page on research infrastructure.

General information about research infrastructure
SLU's guidelines for managing research infrastructure clarify which principles are to govern prioritization, funding and division of responsibilities for research infrastructure at SLU.
Since 2015, SLU has had a central fund for support for the establishment and development of certain infrastructure (so-called infrastructure support).

Wallenberg Academy Fellows (WAF)
Wallenberg Academy Fellows (WAF) have their own SLU decisions on co-funding. The co-funding principle for WAF is stated on the Staff web's page on Wallenberg.
