Cost coverage: For indirect costs, including facility costs, SSF normally allows 35% on salaries and operating costs.

SSF is an independent Swedish research funder that supports research in natural sciences, engineering and medicine. By funding excellent research with high societal relevance and impact, SSF aims to promote the development of strong research environments and ensure that Sweden remains competitive in an international context. On an annual basis, SSF supports research with roughly 1 billion SEK, distributed within the categories research group grants, individual grants, graduate schools and grants to support mobility between sectors, universities, countries and research fields. Over the period 2017-2021, SSF has declared that they will give priority to the following themes:

  • Information, Communication and Systems Technologies (ICT)
  • Life sciences with a focus on technologies and Bioengineering
  • Materials Research with a focus on new and better functionality and production.

SSF announces about 10 calls annually, which are continuously updated on the SSF home page.

All applications to SSF should be submitted via SSFs online Application Portal.
