About the project

Why is the M365 Migration project being carried out?

SLU is upgrading its digital work environment to create a modern, secure and shared platform for communication and collaboration.

Today, we use several different solutions for email, documents and shared workspaces. By bringing these together in Microsoft 365, it becomes easier to collaborate, share information and work efficiently, regardless of where you are.

The migration to Microsoft 365 is also an important step in strengthening the university’s IT security. By moving to cloud-based services, we gain better protection against service disruptions and data loss, and an environment that meets modern security requirements.

What is the goal of the project?

The goal is to create a shared and modern digital platform for all of SLU. With Microsoft 365, we gain access to tools such as Outlook, Teams, SharePoint and OneDrive, all integrated into a single environment that works equally well on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

The new platform makes it easier to collaborate across departments and campuses, while ensuring that our information is handled securely and consistently. In the long term, this creates a more coherent digital work environment that supports education, research and administration.

How will the project affect SLU?

For most users, the change will be noticeable primarily through the migration of email and documents to new services within Microsoft 365.

You will continue to use familiar tools, but with enhanced functionality and improved accessibility, for example, being able to access email and files directly via the web.

The project also provides better conditions for collaboration in Teams, easier document sharing in SharePoint, and a clearer structure for shared workspaces. For many, everyday work will simply become smoother, with information more easily accessible when needed.

What is the project timeline?

The project starts in autumn 2025 and continues until spring 2026. The work will be carried out in phases, with different parts of data migrated at different times. Before you are affected, you will receive clear information, support material and instructions. The goal is for the transition to be as smooth as possible, with minimal impact on daily work.
