AgriFoSe2030 on climate adaptation and food production at the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry

Published: 12 October 2016

AgriFoSe2030 addressed food security, livestock and climate adaptation at the  Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture.

AgriFoSe programme director professor Ulf Magnusson gave a presentation at a seminar at the Academy on September 29 about food security, livestock and climate adaptation and elaborated on AgriFoSe2030’s role in this context.

He presented "the tripled tragedy/paradox" for low- income countries in the face of climate change: they have contributed the least, are affected the most and have the lowest capacity to adapt. The various ways how livestock is affected by climate change in low-income countries were discussed together with options for adaptation.

– The climate change is always present in the work towards improved food security and nutrition in low-income countries, concluded Professor Magnusson.

Facts:

The AgriFoSe2030 programme targets the UN Sustainability Development Goal 2 - "End hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture" in low-income countries. We synthesize and translate existing science into policy and practice, and develop capacity to achieve this.

The programme contributes to sustainable intensification of agriculture, increased market access for small-holders and strengthen the role of women and youth.
