‘Murder emails’ replace porn and bomb threats
There have previously been warnings from both the SLU Security Unit and the police of attempted fraud by email.
Over the last few months, several employees have been the target of attempted fraud by email (read more). These threats have recently escalated and now include links to ransomware but also threats to blow up the building where the recipient is located.
The latest version of blackmail emails threaten to murder the recipient unless they pay 4000 dollars in bitcoins. Should you receive such an email, please forward it to email@example.com. This will help us get a better picture of how many are affected. Once you have done that, delete the email and block the sender.
To be absolutely clear: There is no need for concern - no hitman will show up!
