Presentation

I am a professor and leader for the Subject Area Conservation Biology (Dept. of Ecology, Faculty of Forest Sciences).

My research aims at contributing to the knowledge needed to make decisions related to biodiversity. The applied research is mainly about the effect on biodiversity and ecosystem services (especially recreational values) of forestry, nature conservation, and climate change. I also conduct research in spatial ecology focusing on species of conservation interest, especially beetles associated with old trees and dead wood. It aims at generating knowledge needed as input to the applied research. The research consists of empirical studies, simulations, and syntheses.

Teaching

I am leading a course - Forest ecology and production potential. This is a course within the BSc programme Forest Business Management.

Previously, I have been the leader for the courses Forest conservation biology and Conservation Biology.

Research

I am currently the leader of five research projects.

- Conservation value of low-productivity forests

- Direct and indirect effects of climate change: consequences on biodiversity conservation strategies and policy

- Consequences of dispersed and concentrated conservation efforts for biodiversity and ecosystem services

- Recreational values of landscapes: which and where are they, and how do they correlate with biodiversity values?

- Effects of climate on dead wood organisms – consequences on nature conservation and forest protection
