I conducted my PhD at Imperial College and The Natural History Museum London between 2011 and 2015 under the supervision of Alfried Vogler. My work focused on the interactions between Bark beetles and their fungal associates. Using Illumina sequencing of ITS amplicons to characterise beetle mycobiota, I explored the biotic and abiotic drivers that govern fungal community richness and composition. After my PhD I carried out a British Ecological Society funded fellowship working for the Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology before taking up a post doc with Andres Baselga at the University of Santiago de Compostela. I worked on the Biodiversity, Biogeography and Conservation of Invertebrates project looking at Mollusc and Coleopteran genetic diversity across different spatial scales. I started my post doc here in the Spatial Foodweb Ecology Group with Tomas Roslin in October 2016.
Research
My current research aims to characterise multi-trophic food webs in Swedish agroecosystems. Key questions include predator feeding preferences, the use of semi-natural grassland by natural enemy species and the effect of disturbances on network structure. Using largely metabarcoding approaches I will conduct gut content analysis on predators to establish prey preferences. I am also interested in the microbial component of this system, both in terms of mutualistic microbial associates and of entomopathogenic microbes.
